Memories
Gary
We gathered for one last time to say farewell and it was a really beautiful day (May 26). We shared memories with our cousins and with Aunt Pearl. Mom you will never be gone but waiting for us to all be together again.

My first Mother’s Day without my Mom.

Mother - if you look in the dictionary, the definition you will find is that a mother is typically the biological or social female parent of a child. Alternatively, as most of us think, it is the one from which we were born.

However, what really is a mother? She can be a daughter, a sister, a wife, an aunt, a grandmother, a great-grandmother, a mother-in-law, a co-worker and a friend just to name a few.

To me she was my mommy, my mom, my maw, my mother and with my children, their nana.

My mother brought me into this world crying and left this world with me crying.

In between though she was mine, well almost, I had also to share her with my brothers and sister and so many others but that was alright.

As I grew older, she appeared to grow older, but to me she was always mother.

Her task was not an easy one from the day she gave birth to all of us until the day she went to her rest. Mother was a special person to each one of us.

For me she changed my diapers, gave me nourishment and made sure I was well. She taught me right from wrong as I grew to become a man and a father. She punished my mistakes but also showed forgiveness for my errors. She encouraged me to grow and seek things she could not and then left the choices up to me. She offered advice and opinions, whether wanted or not, for which most of the time was discarded but thought about later on. She could be tough oh so very tough but she could be soft and gentle also. She could be stubborn and she could be willing. She could be happy and she could be sad. She could be carefree and she could worry. She could be right and she could be wrong. She could be all of those things but most of all she was always mother.

There is never a good time to say goodbye to one’s mother but goodbye is not what one should say. She will never gone. She will live on in all of us and we all treasure her in our own ways. She is just somewhere with those who have left before waiting until one day when we will all be together again.

I love you and miss you Mom.
